“Matt Barnes Arrested For Domestic Violence”

NBA player Matt Barnes, who earlier this year signed a $3.6 million dollar contract with the LA Lakers, was arrested yesterday and charged with domestic violence, according to CNN.com.

Barnes and his baby mama Gloria Govan, who starred on the 1st season of the hit reality TV show Basketball Wives, were engaged to be married. But all of that ended when Barnes signed that lucrative contract deal with the Lakers and suddenly realized his worth.

The incident occurred at his Sacramento home Wednesday, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s department said.

Police say someone in the home dialed 911 but the call ended abruptly. When police arrived at the home that Barnes shared with Govan, both parties had “visible injuries.”

“When deputies arrived, they made contact with 30-year-old Matt Kelly Barnes and the adult female who he lived with and with whom he had a dating relationship,” the sheriff’s department said in a statement. “While both parties had visible injuries, Barnes was determined to be the primary aggressor and taken into custody.”

He was booked on felony charges of domestic violence and maliciously obstructing the use of a telephone line.
He posted a $50,000 bond and was released from jail Wednesday evening, the sheriff’s department said.

Matt Barnes will be arraignment on Monday, Sept. 13.

“Burning Qur’ans Are Just Not Necessary”

U.S. president Barack Obama has finally weighed in on the planned Qur’an burning story that has drawn attention from all over the world.

The plan to burn 200 Qur’ans by the Pastor of a small church in Florida to commemorate the anniversary of Sept. 11, has sparked worldwide outrage and condemnation.

In an interview with ABC’s Good Morning America which aired this morning, Obama called Rev. Terry Jones’ planned bonfire a “stunt” and he cautioned that burning the Qur’ans would prove a bonanza for al-Qaeda recruitment.

Pastor Jones dismissed the criticism from politicians and religious leaders, saying his message targets the radical Islamists who continue to plot terror against the United States.

Asked his feelings on the matter as president, Obama said, “well, it is frustrating. Now, on the other hand, we are a government of laws. And so we have to abide by those laws. And my understanding is that he can be cited for public burning, but that’s the extent of the laws that we have available to us.”

A Christian congregation in Germany on Thursday distanced itself from Jones, its founder and former pastor. Stephan Baar, one of the leaders of the Christian Community of Cologne, said the congregation split with Jones in 2008 over differences in the way the church was run.

“We distance ourselves very clearly from the actions that are taking place (in Florida) and also from the person himself and unfortunately we really regret what is happening there,” Baar said in an interview with a CNN affiliate RTL.

“National Action Network In Trouble”

According to the New York Post an accounting firm hired by Al Sharpton’s National Action Network, they found the civil-rights group in such financial disarray that it flunked its record-keeping — and may not even survive.

According to an audit, The National Action Network still owed $1.348 million in delinquent city, state and federal taxes and penalties at the end of 2008. The IRS has filed dozens of liens against NAN over the past decade, including one as recently as April of this year.

According to Rachael Noerdlinger., spokewomen for The National Action Network. “We determined not to file bankruptcy but to make NAN solvent, which we clearly have done and will be reflected in [upcoming reports],”  she said “NAN’s board of directors put up “over seven figures” to begin paying down tax arrears”

Meanwhile, the audit found that NAN was a defendant in five lawsuits:

* Alpha International Travel accused the group of failing to pay $50,000 in outstanding bills. NAN settled the case.

* The Peabody hotel in Memphis, where NAN held its 2008 convention, accused NAN of stiffing it out of $70,000. NAN is contesting the charges.

* NAN’s Arizona chapter is accused of being a deadbeat tenant. The organization is fighting the claim.

Far from closing shop, Sharpton has opened new NAN chapters across the country in the past two years.

But such an expansion is a costly mistake, said one insider familiar with the group’s finances.

What do you think, will Al Sharpton’s good thing come to an end.??

“GA Mayor: Showing Your Drawers Is A Crime”

Pants on the ground! Pants on the ground! Lookin’ like a fool with your pants on the ground!

A Mayor in Dublin, GA has officially made saggin’ pants a crime and all offenders will be fined $200.00 per offense.

The law would prohibit the wearing of pants or skirts more than three inches below the top of the hips, exposing the skin or undergarments.

Police will be left to enforce the law, but skeptics wonder if they are supposed to run around high school parking lots with tape measures in hand looking for violators of the three-inch rule.

City officials hope that a simple warning for kids to pull up their pants will be sufficient, but we all know that there will be at least one kid (and likely more) who will push the law to its constitutional breaking point by getting arrested and fighting the ticket in court.

Some people are already complaining that the law will be used to target young black males. Well, a quick visit to just about any mall will tell you that young white males model just about everything they see from their black counterparts, including saggin’. So it’s up to the community to make sure that young black boys aren’t the only ones getting pinched for this infraction.

Do you think the mayor is doing the right thing? Because I’m hoping this law will spread, especially since I’m offended when I’m forced to look at someone’s ass from sagging pants.

What is your thoughts on this matter?

“Nicole Paultre Bell Running For City Council”

Her  fiancé’s Sean Bell was killed in a hail of bullets four years ago on their wedding day, and now she’s running for Queen’s City Council.

With absolutely no experience under her belt, Nicole Paultre Bell, pictured with the good ole Rev. Al Sharpton, said her platform centers on education reform, elderly care and improving police and community relations.

“What happened to me four years ago – I didn’t expect that to happen,” Bell said in an exclusive interview with the Daily News officially announcing her candidacy.

The one obstacle facing Nicole Paultre is that she doesn’t reside in the Jamaica, Queens, district she wants to represent. She lives in Far Rockaway with her father, who provides an extra set of hands for her two girls, Jada, 7, and Jordyn, 4.

Nicole plans to move back to the Jamaica area in the next few weeks, the deadline to move into the district is Election Day.

The 899 signatures from registered voters on her nominating petitions are due by Monday to enter the nonpartisan race and Paultre insists she’s already surpassed the requirement.

No experience or not, I’m impressed by the fact that, Nicole Paultre Bell wants to get involved in order to ignite change!

She’s looking to turn her negative into a positive and that alone, demonstrates her strength and courage in the wake of such a horrible tragedy.

My hope is that she wins!!!!
