What would make you happy? Tonight on “Conversations Of A Sistah”

Happiness-Hands1

Researchers have been digging up hard data on a question previously left to philosophers: What makes us happy? For some it’s money, attitude, culture, memory, health, altruism, and our day-to-day habits that affect our well-being.

However, the emerging field of positive psychology is bursting with new findings that suggest your actions can have a significant effect on your happiness and satisfaction with life. Good or bad, happy or sad, we all have to live with the decisions that we make.

Recently in a letter I received from one of my loyal Ceo bloggers and listeners they stated:

Dear Ms. Bell,

What makes us happy? My girlfriend seems to think that she can only be happy unless she’s in a relationship, outside of that nothing else matters to her. And she’s constantly comparing herself to other woman regarding looks, accomplishments and success.  Until I asked her one day: what would truly make you happy? She couldn’t answer me.

Because we BOTH love your online show, please, please address this as a “Conversations Of A Sistah” show topic. Thank you I will await the subject.

Per request, join me tonight on “Conversations Of A Sistah” via Conversations Live” as I discuss and ask the question: “What would make you happy?” I will also share the top ten (10) things scientist say will make you happy. 🙂

“DEPRESSION” is the discussion…Tonight on “Conversations Of A Sistah”

Eyes_cry_1

Depression may be described as feeling sad and blue, unhappy, miserable, down and withdrawn. Most of us have felt this way at one time or another in our lives but for short periods.

On Monday actor/comedian Robin Williams was found dead by his personal assistant in the bedroom of his California home. The coroner’s report indicated the comedian’s cause of death was “suicide due to asphyxia.” The actor suffered from severe depression.

Robin Williams was an incredible actor and a comedic genius, who apparently masked his pain and struggles in his stand-up routines. But who really knew he was depressed?

There are several forms of depressive disorders, join me tonight at 8:00 PM on “Conversations Of A Sistah” via “Conversations Live” as I discuss depression and the foundation needed to combat such a state.

Born in Brooklyn, New York but raised in Newark, Gerard Barrett (pictured above) was fascinated by the creative aspects of real estate, those of restoring areas by transforming its look and improving structures and he has continued to work toward his real estate dream and created his company, Barrett Properties & Co., in 2006.

With such humble beginnings and starting on the ground floor with no portfolio to speak of, Barrett now has an impressive $8 million in assets. The roles that we play…Tonight on “Conversations Of A Sistah”

letgoofthemask

Some of us just don’t live in the truth but live fantasies every single day to satisfy impressions or to sway opinions. One of the aspects of life that systems pays close attention to is that of roles.

What roles do you play in your life right now? We start out as son or daughter and perhaps a sibling. Later we become cousins, aunts, uncles, wives, husbands, mothers or fathers. Within our family of origin we play deeper roles: the responsible one, the lost one, the scapegoat, the mascot. Often these follow in the order of birth with the responsible one being the eldest and the cute one being the youngest.

There are many ways that people can influence our behavior, but perhaps one of the most important is that the presence of others seems to set up expectations and these expectations produce role play.

Social roles are the part people play as members of a social group. With each social role you adopt, your behavior changes to fit the expectations both you and others have of that role.

Think of how many roles you play in a single day, e.g. son, daughter, sister, brother, students, worker, friend etc.  Each social role carries expected behaviors.

Join me tonight at 8:00 PM on Conversations Of A Sistah” via “Conversations Live” as we explore the roles we play in life, real or fake?

Conversations Of A Sistah, Police, Police brutality, Racist

Looks like Police Brutality is alive and well? Tonight on “Conversations Of A Sistah”

The choking death of Eric Garner is the latest in the plague of police brutality against African American men.

Garner a 43 year old father of six children, died on the streets of Staten Island, New York as police held him in a choke hold with him pleading for his life.

“I can’t breathe, I can’t breathe!” Garner uttered before going completely silent as several officers piled on top of him.

And despite an attempted cover-up by the NYPD, the video of Garner’s death (posted up-top) has gone viral with media outlets reporting this story vigorously as the cops involved are on desk duty awaiting results of a full investigation.

The incident began when Garner, was approached by a plainclothes police officer. The officer was investigating a report that Garner was selling un-taxed cigarettes. Garner denied the charge.

He stood 6′-4″ and just a shade under 400 pounds, Garner raised both fists and told the officer not to touch him. Yet they did.

The NYPD has outlawed the use of choke-holds during arrests, since 2009.

Join me tonight at 8:00 P.M. on “Conversations Of A Sistah” via “Conversations Live” as we discuss ‘Police Brutality” is it still alive and well in this twenty first century?
