“El DeBarge Headed To Rehab”

The ’80s popster, whose chart-topping career (“The Rhythm of the Night” and “Who’s Johnny”) hit the skids after a crack conviction and two years in prison, announced today that he has checked into rehab.

I’m so very disappointed by this news, especially since I just watched his documentary a couple of weeks ago. In the documentary El declared his deliverance from a bout with drugs, even going back to the old neighborhood where he use to get high to film the video for the title CD debut “second chance”.

“I hate to disappoint my fans but it is necessary for me to take the time to work on me so that I may continue to share my music and my story with everyone,” the 49-year-old DeBarge said. “I thank everyone in advance for their prayers and well wishes and hope that you will respect my privacy during this time.”

DeBarge had been scheduled as an opening act for Mary J. Blige and planned to tour extensively on his own in 2011. Those commitments, along with the publicity appearances, have now been canceled.

“Levy’s Mother Knows That, Convicted Killer”

Ingmar Guandique may not have killed her daughter., Chandra Levy.

The Washington intern’s mysterious disappearance took down a congressman and captured the nation’s attention a decade ago.

Ingmar Guandique was convicted of first-degree murder for allegedly attacking Levy while she exercised in Washington’s Rock Creek Park in May 2001. Her disappearance made headlines when she was romantically linked to then, Rep. Gary Condit, D-Calif. Condit was once a suspect, but police no longer believe he was involved in her disappearance.

The mother of the Washington intern, Susan Levy said Monday that “she’d like to believe Ingmar Guandique is responsible for her daughter’s death”, but admitted she has a sliver of doubt.

Despite a lack of witnesses and no DNA evidence linking him to the crime, Guandique was still sentenced Friday to 60 years in prison. He was convicted in November of first-degree murder in Levy’s 2001 disappearance and death.

Sandra Levy then pleaded for the truth about Chandra’s murder to Guandique, “Did you really take her?” she asked. “Look into my eyes right now and tell me.” Guandique silently shook his head “No” in response.

I believe Guandique was the ‘fall guy’ in the Levy death and disappearance, simply because Gary Condit was desperate to be unrelated to this crime; after it became national news that he and the intern had been having an affair and she was rumored to be pregnant at the time of her disappearance.

“Clarence Thomas Hasn’t Said Shit In 5 Years”

No I’m not talking about the Grammy awards this morning but instead how Justice Clarence Thomas has managed to keep quiet in the last 5 years.

According to the New York Times when the Supreme Court returns from its midwinter break and hears arguments in two criminal cases, it will have been five years since Justice Clarence Thomas has spoken during a court argument.

Justice Thomas’s epic silence on the bench is just one part of his enigmatic and contradictory persona. He is guarded in public but gregarious in private.

He avoids elite universities but speaks frequently to students at regional and religious schools. In those settings, he rarely dwells on legal topics but is happy to discuss a favorite movie, like “Saving Private Ryan.”

Justice Thomas has given various and shifting reasons for declining to participate in oral arguments, the court’s most public ceremony; stating that, “he is self-conscious about the way he speaks.”

In his memoir, “My Grandfather’s Son,” he wrote “that he had been teased about the dialect he grew up speaking in rural Georgia.” “He never asked questions in college or law school and was intimidated by some fellow students.”

A late pastor of mine once said, “When you don’t want people to know how dumb or ignorant you are, you just don’t open your mouth, you keep silent”.

“Ruth Madoff Turned Away From Her Son’s”

Funeral.

After she had flown from Florida to Greenwich, Conn., to attend a private memorial service for her son Mark (who had committed suicide in December), she was turned away by his unforgiving widow, Stephanie.

When Bernard Madoff’s Ponzi scheme collapsed, Mark and his brother, Andrew, warned their mother: It’s him or us, Ruth, 69, chose her cherished sons., until Bernie Madoff was beaten in prison in 2009. She returned to the 72-year-old swindler’s side, infuriating the two sons, who cut her out of their lives for good.

A source close to Ruth said, she now lives in a state of obscurity, using her maiden name and dyes her hair red when venturing out to rent dollar DVDs or when visiting the public library.

Regardless to how Ruth’s son felt when he took his own life, her daughter-n-law has to live with the fact that, she denied his own mother some sort of peace before he was laid to rest.
