“Stand Your Ground”… is this law racially motivated? Tonight on “Conversations Of A Sistah”

Stand-Your-Ground-Law

Many states have enacted “stand your ground” laws that remove the duty to retreat before using deadly force in self-defense.

A substantial minority of states have laws imposing a duty to retreat, with some important variations. In general, a duty to retreat means that you are not allowed to resort to deadly force in self-defense if it is possible to safely avoid the risk of harm or death (by running away, for example). If that is not an option and you were cornered or pinned down and facing serious harm, then you could be authorized to use deadly force in self-defense.

This was George Zimmerman’s claim in the Trayvon Martin case, he created a fabricated LIE to justify him using deadly force in killing the unarmed teen. This made the “Stand Your Ground” law a central part of the Trayvon Martin controversy. Zimmerman claimed Trayvon Martin pinned him down to the ground, while pounding his head on the pavement, leaving him no other option but to use his weapon in self-defense.

renisha-mcbride-540x668And the recent case of Renisha McBride, 19, (pictured here), the young woman who was shot in the face when she knocked on a door in Dearborn Heights, Mich., at 2:30 a.m. in the morning seeking help after wrecking her car in the early morning hours of Nov. 2.

Civil rights groups have said the killing of McBride, who is black, is an example of racial profiling. They have said the circumstances surrounding her death are similar to the murder of Trayvon Martin.

There are 24 states that have stand your ground laws. 24. That is almost half of all states, and that’s frightening. Additionally, the majority of victims in Florida “Stand Your Ground” cases  have been white.

Join me tonight at 8:00 PM on Conversations Of A SistahviaConversations Liveas we take a look at this law and the alarming cases of “Stand your ground”.

Bride Mimics Gruesome Wedding Cake

Gruesome wedding cake

Natalie Siderserf of Sideserf Cake Studio in Austin, Texas, designed the cake for her upcoming marriage to her fiancé, Dave. She said the female severed head depicts her, while the male head depicts Dave.

“We were watching a horror movie, and I was always interested in sculpting lifelike cakes, especially in the face, so I thought, ‘How neat would it be if I did our severed heads?’” Sideserf said. “And Dave was like, ‘That would be amazing.’”

She said the rainbow confetti vanilla-flavored cakes in pools of blood took around 40 hours to make. The lifelike heads were finished with vanilla butter cream frosting and chocolate.

The heads were served on a white board. Their dead eyes seemingly staring at the words ‘Till Death Do Us Part’.

Talk about extreme, this takes the cake!!

‘How desperate are you for a ring?’ Tonight on “Conversations Of A Sistah”

300 sandwiches

Let’s face it, a lot of women dream of being married even if the fantasy is all about the ring and a fairytale ceremony. Some women can’t live without a man and can’t fathom life without a significant other.

Like for example, Stephanie Smith (pictured w/her boyfriend above), who is making headlines in the blogoshphere for pressuring her white boyfriend into proposing to her. And because Stephanie’s boyfriend loves sandwiches, he told her “Honey, you’re 300 sandwiches away from an engagement ring!”.

Stephanie’s boyfriend is a gourmet cook and loved the first sandwich she ever made for him so much so that he declared, when he gets 300 sandwiches from her, she’ll get her engagement ring. Therefore, Stephanie promised to make 300 sandwiches for her boyfriend Eric if he will put a ring on her finger, so she’s going for it.

Does Stephanie’s stunt reek of desperation? Is Eric’s love for Stephanie not enough to put a ring on it?

Join me tonight at 8:00 PM on Conversations Of A Sistah” via “Conversations Live” as we discuss “How desperate are you for a ring?”

‘Long Distance Relationships…do they work?’ Tonight on “Conversations Of A Sistah”

long-distance-relationships-the-10-step-guide

I’ve heard all of the success stories of long-distance relationships and they’ve all made me wonder if they are actually realistic? Meaning can two people sincerely maintain a monogamous relationship in any long-distance situation and keep it faithful?

Thinking about the physical aspect of being apart from each other, what temptations will arise as the two individuals live with the relationship being apart? Does love long distance depend on the two individuals involved?

And what type of cynical thoughts does one in love, long distance have in the meantime?

  1. What is that person doing with his/her spare time when you’re apart?
  2. Is he/she cheating?
  3. Is there someone local that their involved with but they keep that long distance relationship because they’re getting from the long-distance relationship what they can’t get locally.
  4. If there is no sex in the relationship, does it make the temptation even greater? Or is sex even an expectation?
  5. Is there actually someone else in the background?
  6. Is he/she cheating?
  7. Is he/she cheating?
  8. Because I’m out of sight, am I also out of mind?
  9. Is the bond between us strong enough to sustain the separation?
  10. Where is the trust and will it strengthen your convictions in the relationship?

Join me tonight at 8:00 PM on “Conversations Of A Sistah” via “Conversations Live” for this topic, ‘Long Distance Relationships…and do they work?’
