Medical Minute: Untreatable ‘Super Gonorrhea’ On the Rise

A new untreatable form of gonorrhea, called “super gonorrhea” is infecting people all over the world. This new strain is mainly spread by oral sex, and there is no treatment.

This new strain was developed after doctors misdiagnosed it for strep throat and began overprescribing antibiotics. Researchers say the bacteria has gotten smarter and adapted quickly to resist standard treatment.

The super strain of gonorrhea is resistant to all antibiotics, including the last line of defense — azthromycin (AZT) and ceftriaxone antibiotics.

Gonorrhea usually infects 78 million people per year. It commonly affects the genitals, rectum and throat.

Patients infected with gonorrhea usually have no symptoms. But if left untreated, gonorrhea can cause abdominal and genital pain and a smelly discharge from the genitals. Also common is fever, frequent urge to urinate, irregular menstruation, or sore throat and difficulty swallowing.

Gonorrhea is the 2nd most commonly spread STD in America. It can increase the risk of HIV infection and can be spread from mother to child during childbirth.

The NY Daily News reports that 3 new antibiotics are in the pipeline, but it is not known when those drugs will reach the market.

The standard cautions still apply: use condoms and gels, or practice abstinence if you are not married.

Why Are More Women Choosing to Marry Themselves? Tonight on “Conversations Of A Sistah”

It’s a celebration of being single and thoroughly enjoying it, therefore many women are jumping on the “I me wed” and choosing to marry themselves? Women are tiried of listening to or even believing whatever society’s messages are about being happily married. Women no longer believe they are not enough if they are not with someone else.

The notion of marrying oneself entered popular consciousness in the 2003 episode of Sex and the City in which Carrie Bradshaw, its protagonist, announced she was fed up with forking out money to celebrate her friends’ life choices, but never her own.

Join Author, Blogger and Host, Tracy L. Bell at 6:30 p.m EST on the next “Conversations Of A Sistah” for her commentary on “Why are more women choosing to marry themselves?”

Hope we’ll meet you on the air!!

“Why are Single Women Pursuing Men?” Tonight on “Conversations Of A Sistah”

What is up with single women pursuing men? Even magazine ads are starting to suggest or even encourage women that this is the way to go. Are women that hard up? My God I hope not!!

If you have to pursue a man chances are, he’s not interested and is just along for the ride.

Women who chase men believe therein lies their happiness. And the man they’re chasing can provide that happiness but believing such bullshit is not only shallow but an empty assessment of ones selfworth.

Join me live at 6:30 p.m. on “Conversations Of A Sistah” via blog talk radio for tonights commentary, “Why are single women chasing men?” It’s the man’s responsibility to pursue you and I’ll tell you why? So tune in.

All “conversation links” in this post will give you access to the online show.

Hope to meet you on the air.

Why the black man is a disappointment.

I receive fan mail all the time, emails, IG and Facebook comments about show ideas or my listeners and readers wanting certain topics of conversation, but this particular letter we received this morning, the sender asked me to share and publish, so here it is..

Dear Ms. Bell,

I would just like to tell you why I chose to date outside of my race. The main reason is because the black men I’ve encountered have disappointed me. Yes that’s right, the black man is a disappointment. And I cannot depend on a black man. They promise and don’t come through, they talk but put no muscle or action behind their words. Half of them want you to run after them or take care of them. Some are lazy with no ambition. The man I’m with is my white prince. I can count on him, depend on him and he keeps his word, never before have I experienced what I’m experiencing now with my white king. He’s ambitious and see a future with me, never leaving me wondering and/or guessing where I stand in his life. He erases my doubt and secure all of my fears. So yes I’m a black woman in love with and will marry a white man, why? Because once again a black man never stepped up to the plate, he allowed someone else to take and appreciate his queen.

I Thank you for sharing but like Tika Sumpter, Serena Williams and countless others, trust that I understand.

Have a wonderful day and I look forward to your show!
